Quick! It’s an emergency! You just got an urgent call about a family emergency and had to rush to the airport with barely time to grab your wallet and your passport. But now, you’re stuck at the airport with nothing to read. What do you do??
And, no, you did NOT have time to grab your bookbag, or the book next to your bed. You were . . . grocery shopping when you got the call and have nothing with you but your wallet and your passport (which you fortuitously brought with you in case they asked for ID in the ethnic food aisle). This is hypothetical, remember….
What a great question! When stuck in the airport, I head for the news stand and buy up all the trashy magazines I normally couldn't justify wasting my time and money on. I secretly love People, Us, The National Enquirer and any other gossip/celebrate crap I can get my hands on. But I have my pride and a degree in English, so I never buy the stuff. At the airport I give myself permission to indulge. I also buy a Coke and the largest chocolate bar they have for sale.
Other people dread layovers, but not me.

Sounds like the perfect time to indulge. Sometimes trash is the best distraction there is.

Yep! :-)
Mmmm...chocolate.
Oh yes! Let's hear it for the trashy stuff!
I must confess that the only time I buy those magazines is when I am flying - although I tear out the recipes for future use and then do the puzzles so I really only use a very small percentage of the mag. There is always someone to give it to after I am done :-)
I am so with you! I secretly dig People, too! And you can NEVER go wrong with chocolate. I also hit the coffee bar, too! When I was still active duty, I flew ALOT, so I got to read a lot of People!!
Oh yeah, at a time like that I'd definitely need chocolate!
I would take this opportunity to read trashy stuff too. As it is, I only read it when I go to get my hair done. :-)
I would buy a Diet Pepsi and would probbly buy two or three magazines instead. Books would involve thinking in this stressful situation. They would probably be some country home type magazines. I think those pictures would provide a bit of comfort.
